We work on observing, creating, and utilizing new phenomena related to the spatial distribution of light, with special interest in amplitude, phase, and polarization. Research topics include light carrying orbital angular momentum and its application to quantum information technologies, singular optics in birefringent crystals, and real time measurement of 3D object profiles.

We have been developing a technique for entangled photon sources utilizing spontaneous parametric down-conversion process. In particular, we focus on controlling frequency correlations of the photons. Such new technique are useful not only in the entanglement generation but also in the generation of spectrally pure single photons heralded by their sister photons.

We are working on quantum optics with both continuous and discrete variables. With continuous variable, we generate the squeezed state and investigate the particle quantum properties with homodyne detection techniques, for example, measurement of photon bunching and anti-bunching with homodyne detection. With discrete variable, we try to explain quantum interference by single photon detection technique. In future, we try to link all techniques between continuous and discrete varibale.
